September 2005
Seventy-five years ago, a famed woman pilot named Gladys O'Donnell won the 1930 National Air Races in the Transcontinental Derby from Long Beach to Chicago in her 1929 Waco Taperwing Biplane. Today, with the cooperation of Desert Capital REIT and MotoArt, she is again making headlines. Her original bottom wing has been now transformed into a functional work of art! For the preservation of history, the lower wing has been painstakingly restored and converted into a stunning 23' conference table. Accented with her original retro red/yellow paint scheme and topped with nearly 1200 pounds of glass, the wing was purchased by Desert Capital REIT of Henderson, NV as their incredible conference table. August 11 th 2005, we celebrated Gladys 75 th anniversary of this historic flight with everyone who made this project possible at it's new home at Desert Capital REIT. The mayor of Henderson, Nevada and the entire surviving O'Donnell family was on-hand, including Lorraine O'Donnell Doyle, Gladys' daughter.
Designing and fabricating this piece was an extraordinary event. The unplanned timing falling into the right moment of her anniversary was surreal. MotoArt, with the help of our expert WACO airplane friends, spent over three hundred hours to make this all possible. Will MotoArt make another one? - Yes, in fact we still have available her top wing at 30' in length. Will MotoArt offer the same style in a smaller desk version - You bet! We'll be accepting deposits for the first run of these by late October.

Officially MotoArt has now been in our new hangar studios at Torrance Airport for one year - a big change, considering we started all this in Dave's garage four years ago. As we continue to get settled, the shop looks better than ever. MotoArt has welcomed many new employees into our team as we continue to grow and succeed. As we mark our own little anniversaries, we are proud to introduce some new faces at MotoArt, LLC. Please come see us next time you're in Los Angeles.
Thank you all for that incredible run of First Class Seats. The sale is OVER! We cleaned house on every seat that was made available to us. To get these great seats, MotoArt had to purchase the entire collection including the TriStar L1011 Lounge Bars and First Class Tables. We are proud to say, we did not make these little monstrosities. They are truly ugly but if you like tikies, you'll love these. Each table comes complete with a fine wood grained paper finish, trimmed in warm leatherette and at no added costs you have four (4) built-in drink holders and ashtrays. Fly them off the lot for the low the price of $129.99.
Until next time,
Dave & Donovan
